What is Subculture?

Subculture is a brand/community dedicated to showcasing, documenting and preserving New Zealand's skate culture. We want to create a space for everybody from the person who's down at the park stepping on their board for the first time to the talented skateboarders our countries produced who put down mind bending tricks on the regular.

The website is also intended to help pull together everything you would need to jump on a board or learn more about skateboarding.

Who's involved?

Brad organises the place and keeps it running, he's also our resident photographer so you'll see him in your way flashing bright lights at you when you're trying to skate.

Will Slingsby's a videographer by trade and wanted to get back into skateboarding recently so we hustled him into the fold so we could have somebody that knows what they're doing around a camera in exchange for teaching him how to do a kickflip.

Richard Te Are is an east coast transplant that you'll find on the North Shore now, he's an actor, creative and behind the camera for skate footy! he's probably been skating the longest out of all of us and he's also most likely to be found in a conversation with somebody he's never met but you think they're best buds with the way they're interacting.

So like what do you do?

At the moment we're growing out our Instagram with photos and videos of skateboarders across Tāmaki Makaurau, filming a few videos that'll be out soon and brainstorming ideas for what comes next.
